Hey all My name is Mark N0rt0n (yes, honestly I know it's sounds corny but it really is Norton). I'm from Canberra Australia and I am just started the restoration of what I was told is a '68 Commando Roadster, however, others are telling me that it's probably early 70's. The others I'm, talking about is you guys because a great mate of mine is "Blackston" and I think he raised my dilema as a thread on these boards. I can't be sure of the year of the bike because the engine and frame numbers make no sense and there have been a few mods on the old girl. Any how, just saying hello. It's great looking forum and I look forward to shooting the shit and picking your brains because I am a bit of a spanner gumby. Iv'e never done a project like this before but can't wait to get amongst it.

Great avatar. However, I'm not going to show that to my 2 year old son, as that would just be too disappointing to him

Avatar was a little Bob the builder cartoon "can we fix it, no it's fucked". Poor etiquette so I changed it

Welcome Yogi. The disc brake tells me you've got at least a 70 ish front end. Don't matter really, youve got a Norton and that's a grat bike.

Wecome and thanks. I'm stealing the "Spanner Gumby" line. Lean down next to your Norton's ear and whisper a "snort!". It's like a mating call for the Snortin' Norton types and she'll respond like the thoroughbred she is. Good luck and have fun.

I was told by the bloke I got the bike from (long story that one) that the disk brake front end was a mod to the bike and that was actually a '68 model. I have been asking around a lot about the actual pedigree and the Norton Owners Club (UK) tell me that the gearbox number makes it a Aug/Sept '71 build. The engine and frame numbers match but don't make any sense whatsoever A free interweb hug goes to the first to work out what the engine and frame numbers are from. 55 G925775 ;D I hope to put a thread together soon that decribes the old girl and my dodgy efforts to breath life into her.

Hello Mark.Even though you're Brets friend,you're welcome here anyway.And Bret's right.That Noddy is a funny fucker.But,you know,looks aren't everything.
That's a great last name you got there, and a great choice in bikes.Lots of Norton fans here. I seem to remember looking at that bike before, and thinking it was an 850,and some other clues that led me to believe it was a 1973,but it's been quite a while.Lets see some more pics.
I didn't see your Bob the Builder avatar, but I'm sure it's OK. I'm the admin here, and you can put it back if you want.I'm curious now. If I think it violates the TOS,I'll let you know.
Cheers! BR
