Got one for Christmas, DOT approved, and very happy with it. The leather lining is super comfortable and it's much quieter and better fitting than the Cromwell Hurricane I have. There is a bit of a mushroom- head look, but that can't be helped. They run small, so check your noggin for fit. I'm sticking with my Arai for freeway duty and winter. .
I use Halcyon mark 49 goggles with the Cromwell and now the Davida, and they are great. Leather padding works well and they fit over my glasses too.

I like them - and the Cromwell but have grown to like a shield in front of my face. The absense of the wind blast and bugs whacking me makes for a more pleasant ride. But those two do look very British. One of them on your head and some crooked teeth and everyone would think you're from Liverpool. LOL!

Ha, maybe I'll go to the Brighton Bar in Long Branch, pick a fight and get a few teeth knocked out! Actually, the Cromwell has a flip up shield, which I put on if I'm not using the goggles, and I bought a half shield for the davida which snaps in, so they do provide a shield option.

I'm thinking,in this day and age of fake carbs, etc, that some of that tooth black out stuff would be perfectly acceptable.

I used a Davida Classic Jet over the summer and was very pleased. Much quieter than any other helmet I've tried, very comfortable. Davida does have a similar helmet with a smaller profile called the Speedster but not DOT approved. When the temps drop I'll go with my full face (HJC) just to keep my eyes lids from freezing open.

After paying $300 for perscription motorcycle glasses that were junk, I was looking for an alternative. Goggles were too much hassle with the up and down. I don't like full visors either. British Classics in Fla. offered these and I bought a pair to go with my jet. They are very cool and look a lot less gay on a homely guy like me than on this helmet model.

Nice to read good reviews on the Classic Jet, as I'm planning on getting one in the next month or so. I have an HCI which is a copy of the Davida Classic. I like it, but I hate having to wear ear plugs because of the wind noise on the freeway. Sounds like the Jet will take care of that. They're good looking helmets too.

Funkster, did you know there is a recall on those HCI lids? They failed the DOT test, and were withdrawn from the market.I'm not sure exactly what they're replacing them with,or if it's just a refund. I'm keeping mine. It's the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn, especially at high speed.Almost no wind buffeting, you can turn your head to look over your shoulder without having your head feel like it's got a parachute attached to it.It's like not wearing a helmet at all,and I suppose that's just about how much protection it gives too. It is noisy as hell, though. I was shocked at how noisy it is.I think it's because the neck curtain kind of opens in front of your ears, making little scoops that really catch the air.I wonder if the Davida is like that? The noise isn't bad around town,to me,and out of town,I always wear earplugs anyway.Have for years.I found out a long time ago that I just don't get as tired on a long highway ride,if I don't have to listen to the engine drone and wind.Or now,I wear some noise canceling ear buds, plugged into my MP3 player.Works even better. I have 3 other lids. A Bell Bandit half helmet, which is almost as noisy as the HCI,and really feels like a parachute at high speed,an EXL jet that's a little quieter, but does a pretty good job of catching the wind too,and an EXL modular, which is pretty quiet, and cuts through the wind really good,as long as you're looking straight ahead.I can really only wear that one if it's really hot,or too cold to wear an open helmet.Otherwise,I'm just too claustrophobic. I keep going back to the HCI.It just feels too good, and looks too good.Even though I feel a little guilty every time I strap it on. If they can make those little Skid Lid things, that all the choppy guys wear,DOT,why can't they make a pudding bowl DOT?I know there's a Japanese company on ebay that's selling them, but they just don't look right. So,anyway,I guess I'm going to retire the HCI.Put it on the shelf as a display with my old aviator goggles,or something. Now I'm looking for a replacement.Been looking at the Nolan N30 Flashback.Anybody have any experience with it?

Bruce, I bought one of those Nolans used on ratnet. Black and tan. I modified the big logo with some black paint and a triumph decal. Even though it's DOT, it's very light weight and doesn't instill a lot of confidence. It does have the nifty Nolan quick release strap. I believe they also make them without the flip shield.
Didn't you say you were inventing a replacement for the brake reservoir? Maybe we could swap.

Here's photo's of my jet, complete with dead fly's and mud for effect! I made the visor myself by copying the (expensive) accessory which can be bought from Davida. Just cut up an old wrap-around visor I had and added some trim which is sold to use on screens and fairings. Total cost £4.00!! Davida helmets are made 15 miles from where I live, in Birkenhead. Thats the place on the other side of the Mersey from Liverpool. Where the famous ferry goes to!! Their factory is open to the public one day per week where helmets and stuff can be bought from the factory shop. Great helmets and without doubt the quietest on the market. V.

Yeah Bruce, I did hear about the recall, but I won't part with mine because I like it so much. I'm looking at a few others, but am really liking the Davidas. They're pretty pricey, but from what I've read and seen, they're very high quality lids. I like the looks of that Nolan as well. I'll have to look into that as well. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Inventing might be a bit strong.Right now,I'm just in the thinking-about-it stage.Like thinking about how much I hate that piss cup,and what I can do about it.
Most of my idea is predicated on the belief that that piss cup is about twice as big as it needs to be.I mean it's as big as the res on lots of small cars, which have two calipers, and lots more fluid capacity to feed.
Once the initial bleeding is done, the res has two functions. One,hold enough fluid to refill the calipers, and lines,as the pads wear, something that happens relatively slowly. And two,to provide enough space for expansion of the brake fluid,as it heats.I think both of these objectives can be achieved with a receptical about half the size of the stocker.
Somebody please disabuse me of these notions,if they are wrong.
So,I'm keeping my eyes peeled for something I can make into a reservoir.Something out of stainless,or aluminium, preferably with a tight sealing cap, with about 1 oz capacity. The hose fed master opens up possibilities for different mounting locations. It doesn't necessarily have to be directly above the master,as long as the head space of the res is consistantly higher than the feed pipe on the master cylinder.
So,it sounds like you didn't care much for the Nolan?

Or we could just go the other way and use a quart canning jar and just celebrate the piss cup's piss cupedness! ;D
No, I've always thought I'd keep the Nolan for passengers, but I've got a few other helmets for that purpose (read pack rat). If you want to give it a try, it's yours. I think it's a medium.

Hmmm...that bucket would make my head look good. Actually, anything that draws attention away from my face makes me look good.

Got my classic jet w/hotrod flames the other day. Excellent quality, quiet, and very comfortable. I'll post some pics soon.
