A while back I scanned this old photo of me on the track with my Husky 400 from the early 70's. To my knowledge it's the only record of those days. When I showed my wife, her comment was, "Are you ahead or behind?" Of course, I said I was so far ahead of everyone else you couldn't see them. To which she replied, "Yeah, right". Fortunately, no one will ever know for sure. I played football in school and served in the military, but I never felt as beat up and exhausted as after a motocross race. And, God, was I skinny!

I've got a few shots like that, and I too are always 'way out in front' ;D This is me in my first ever race, I'm the one in the orange novice jacket. It was taken in 1977 at the hairpin at Cadwell Park. The bike is a Suzuki 250cc single cylinder 2 stroke. The next couple of shots are of me on a Honda RS250 4 stroke. I built this myself out of various 'donor Hondas', had a bit of head work done and raced it in the 250 single cyl class and the 500 4 stroke class. The exhuast was made up of Yamaha RD200 downpipes, collector box was made from the end on a Honda C90 exhuast, and the straight through mega was off an old BSA! This is me changing tyres between races, happy days! I just noticed I had hair back then!

Yeah, very cool pix,Steve, and you too Rich. I wish I had some pix like that. Nobody with us ever brought a camera. I guess we thought we'd be young forever, and wouldn't need pix to look back on.
Actually,I think there are some pix of me doing bong hits in the back of a van,at a Grateful Dead show.Does that count?

Got no racing pics. But if you wanna see skinny, check this shot out, from my Hippy daze in the 70's. & if that ain't emberassing enough. This is the the crew of misfits I travelled around NZ with, in those days. I'm the skinny wasted dude leaning against the bus. I haven't seen any of those folk for years. Tho I do stay in touch with the long haired guy, lying underneath the U in Trucking. But he now lives in Thailand, so we haven't met for 20+ years. PS Sorry about the threadjack.

We need to start a hippy burnout photo thread. I think I used most of my pictures back then for rolling papers, but I may be able to locate one or two.

Scratch, you were obviously really groovy, in a far out way. That group pic looks like something out of a 70's B movie. LOL!

I went all over the Sth Island of NZ with that crew, in that bus. We had "secret gardens" all over the place & would travel between them with plants hanging in the aisleway drying. & we never got pulled over once! Good times!
