Well, the Bonneville was not running for a while - no spark, as I mentioned earlier, due to a failed igniter. I bought a Procom job at NewBonn, plugged it in, and the motorcycle fired right up. As pleased as I was with that, I was even more pleased when I took it for a ride - it ran better than it has in a while. Very good pick up and nice and peppy. It continues to start within a second of pressing the starter button. I suppose the stock igniter was just getting crappy in its function and died rather slowly. But if you find you need a new igniter, the Procoms seem pretty good. While I am here - what exactly does the adjustability feature do for a motorcycle with carburetors? Seems as though all I could do, if I wanted, would be to adjust the timing.

I don't know the specifics about the igniter you have but you should have been given some documentation with it.
Along with ignition timing comes different timing profiles / advance curves,...e.g. different amounts of advance at specific RPM's. Some have pre-set profiles that come with the igniter and you can try each one and decide what works best for you. Other igniters are more for advanced users and are reprogrammable to whatever custom set-up you want.
Did your red line change with the ProCom igniter?

Thanks for the input, Jimi. The unit has a small dial switch - 0 through 9 - that the user turns to match the number on the stock unit. I set it to two. All that fine tuning stuff that it can do I will leave alone. It had no directions or literature, unless something is on the small CD that came with it. But all I know is the bike runs excellently, and I am happy happy! PS - don't know about redline, as I have no tachometer.

the come set at 9000 watch it Even though I set the switch to match my stock unit, it will raise the revolution limit? That can't be good.
