Its cool guys…don't panic!!…got them out eventually…mind you it wasn't an easy job…small cold chisel , hammer and needle nose vice grips…needless to say I will be replacing the torques bit cam cap nuts with 8mm head high tensile… anybody interested they are 40mm in length, 6 x 1.00 thread and have a 13mm shoulder…as long as i can get some with the same head purchase on the cam caps i'll be right…torques bits in that area doesn't make sense to me… Anyway, cheers guys

Pleased to hear you have got the buggers out! I think Ventura ended up heli-coiling some of his as the threads came out with the bolts!

As much as i hate to smash delicate stuff, the only way to loosen those fuckers is with an impact driver and don't be scared to hit the bloody thing…I think that was the problem with the two that fucked the heads…they had been looking a bit suss from the time I cracked the rocker cover and actually getting an impact driver onto some of them is ridiculous..I had to use an extension bar and I think that is where i lost the advantage…anyway the offending bolts are now in the bin and Im refitting the shims and cams today so hopefully I'll have her running this arvo…
Cheers… Bret...

"i don't want to go cutting slots or anything because of the chance of getting metal filings in everything"
Never any harm packing the offending area with vasaline or grease to catch the swarf!
Hope you're up n' running by the time you see this

Yeah Nodds I did think of stuff like covering everything and using the dremel…never thought of vaso though…It was reasonable just using the chisel and knocking the little buggers around..I did find a small problem though The cam caps were not in the right order so when I bolted it all down and spun it through a couple of times with them in the right order, I came up with different clearances on all the others bar one exhaust valve…So, I have redone all my shim calcs and ended up ordering shims from a company here in melbourne called Precision Shims Australia and have shims coming in the mail by express post…they should be here tomorrow and I'll put them in and start again… Gives me an excuse to polish the rocker cover while I'm waiting I suppose… Cheers…

Well guys, after much stuffing around my shims turned up the day after i ordered them…awesome service I must say…put them all in and made sure that the corresponding cam caps were fitted correctly ( Just on that subject, I have the utmost respect for the dude that built Max initially and for circumstances beyond my control and his I have started working on Max myself. This has brought to lite some interesting facts like: the cam caps that are numbered and supposedly not interchangable were not in the correct positions…hence the different valve clearance readings…Mmmmm…well anyway, I have put everything back the way it should be, redone the shim calcs and I am proud to say that Max is singing once more) So the upshot is, after fucking around with torques bit cam cap bolts and redoing the shim clearances twice and having to order my own shims (which where cheaper than exchange shims from Triumph) I now have a running motorcycle to play with once again…man what a challenge… I must admit though, you never stop learning and if any of my Brit Iron Bros need any pointers on this exercise please let me know…I aint no expert but I sure can point you in the right direction… Cheers guys…

I think that I have at least one more removal for one of my cam caps before it gets too messed up, at which time I will replace all those torque head jobbers. What a pain they can be!
