My 2001 Bonneville has been on the road for 14 years. Is it a coincidence that my electrics are failing one after another? In November 2014 my coil failed,...In January / February 2015, my CDI box became unstable. The new Nology coil and Procom CDI corrected the problems. I am now fine tuning the mapping for my bike. I loaded the provided #6 CDI profile map and the bike started on a touch of the button and idled stronger and more stable than it ever has,...Even from NEW! I noticed a little less charge from 5000rpm on so I am tweaking the timing up on my own custom map. The idle and charge to 4000 is spot on! No adjustment needed. I have worked in electronics all my life and I have witnessed, not on a consistent basis, but still an unusual frequency, that replacing one component in a circuit seems to cause a cascade effect on components in the same circuit or having a shared responsibility. Coincidence?,...I think not. So as a preemptive strike, I am ordering a new pick-up coil. I have this gut feeling that it is next to fail. Build in obsolescence or the stronger / newer components overtaxing the older component,...Who knows, but having the part in advance will eliminate any down time.
Any riders with Bonnevilles experiencing the same pattern? I would like to hear your story.
