Ok lads,
So I haven't been around much and only really starting playing with both bikes today, and here's where we are:
73: Re-cleaned the carbs, and that seemed to help...a bit. Ok, let's move to the '68. While draining the gas from the '73 tank I noticed I was not getting any flow. Well, it seems that the gas cap was (is) creating a seal and making a vaccum. Put the cap from the '68 and gas was (is) now flowly freely. So, the '73 is running better, but it is looking like I need new rings. Getting oil spray, or oily carbon spray on the joints of the header / crossover pipe, which leads me to think, and hopefully someone point out if I am wrong, that oil is leaking past the rings. So a ride report is that, off the line, this bike as it is, is terrible. Once at speed, it does it pick up. I know that it is a 38 yr old bike, but yeah, I am surprised how little power there is, but it I haven't given up trying to tune it correctly...yet.
'68: Cleaned out the carbs, new gaskets, and one of the barrels is out of round. So, a new tire is on, we do have spark, just need carbs and a couple of washers. Hopefully something positive will be happening by next week.
I'll keep y'all posted.

Funny how something as simple as a plugged fuel vent will keep you chasing shadows forever. That one can be a real nut buster, especially if you start out with a full tank of gas,and don't have to visit the pumps for a while.Drive ya crazy.
Are the plugs on the '73 showing any signs of oil fouling?

'73 plugs: Right side shows normal wear, left side shows abnormal amount of oily blackness.
