What a transformation. Started out with the ugliest rear end I've seen since a stag night in Blackpool, looks real good so far. Are you changing the clocks too?

Thanks Guys!!!
Seth, all you have to do is do it! Sorry if that sounds like Jedi Wisdom...
get yourself a 4-1/2" angle grinder and a MIG/wire feed welder, auto-dim helmet and you'll be able to do almost anything you'll need.
Best advice I can give is to know when to do it yourself and know when to let the pros handle it, then find a pro to handle it! I found a local guy at a hot rod shop that does all my TIG welding and also 2 different machine shops in town to handle the precision stuff.

Wise words indeed young Luke. A Jedi must know how to network & when to outsource.

ha!
A little update: Tonight we pulled the carbs and airbox and installed pod filters. Much better! I tore the carbs down, and much to my surprise they are factory roundslides (and damned tiny!). We rejetted all the way up to 95 mains!!! Seriously, the intake manifolds aren't much bigger than my thumb.
Next up is fitting the little reverse megaphone pipes and finishing the tank paint. Then a little bit of wiring clean up, some more metal fab, and it will be road ready. more to follow!

here's an updated pic: The wheels have been painted and we 86'd the airbox for some pod filters. Next, we're mounting the short reverse megaphones we got for it. They're straight through, and should be loud as fuck!

That sounds real beefy through those little megaphones - nice! sounds great both ways, but especially through the megaphones. for some reason I'm always surprised to hear how sweet those in-line fours can be!

here's a little update. Today we cleaned some tabs off the frame and I cut the loop off the original back of the frame so we can weld it back on just behind the seat. here's me cutting tabs off the loop (at my house I have a nice welding table with a big vice, at his place I have to use a City of Austin trash can): here's the loop test fitted to the back of the frame. This is where I'll weld it in: and here's a few shots of the rear fender and tail light mocked on the bike: and here's my buddy making "vroom vroom" sounds:

Really cool looking bike - the limp dick light and all. Cutting the frame to make the seat look presentable I feel is worth the effort. I have seen modified bikes - a lot of Triumphs - in which the rear part of the top frame is left, in view of the gods and everyone. A bit cheesey. I like that little scooter. I'd never buy one, but if I got one for free, I'd ride it!
