Here's my buddy's '83 KZ 550 ltd. He bought it from my brother a few months back, just as I was about to cut it up to make a crazy go kart out of it...It had been sitting for 3 or so years, and I got it to start with just fresh oil, gas, and a new battery. The starter button was corroded and wouldn't work, so I arc'd the starter solenoid with a screwdriver and it fired right up! Started with this: Lil chop chop by yours truly: The tank has been sanded down and the badge area bondo'd: 5-3/4" headlight and some brackets made in the same style as on my bonnie: here's how it looks now: Next is a custom seat, some shorty megaphones, lots of spray paint, and some minor frame mods. Should be a kickass little bike!

I agree that the rear was ugly, particularily that seat <barf>
Good job. Any ideas about paint for the tank?

Most excellent. Doing that plain little bike a big favor, you are. That same idea is on my mind if I do not buy a Thruxton - find a cheap machine and put some labor into it. Look forward to seeing the final result.

nice lines already! I'd go for a single seated low rider and as for paint? gunmetal gray/antracite? Their a good solid engine, ran a '90 plate GT550 for a few years (only difference was shaft, CV carbs and at least +100lbs ) keep us up to date on developments

the bike is going to have a single seat on it, but the plan was to make it long enough that a passenger could just squeeze onto it in a pinch. He has a smokin' hot redheaded girlfriend he'll want to cart around from time to time I'm sure.
As for paint color, I'm not sure, it's up to my buddy, but I think he said he wants to do a gunmetal grey like you suggested.

Sweat, that is a great project, and you continue to express your individuality and skills thru your work on bikes. It's impressive stuff, and you should capitalize on it!

Love ya work Sweat. You've got a real talent for making any bike look classic. You could definitely make money from it. Even if it's just a profitable hobby.

Perhaps now, between jobs, is the time to give it a shot? amazing how you've tranformed that little Kaw already.

I'm currently working on an sv650 for money...
I'm doing basic stuff though: oil/filter change air filter change coolant flush/replace install a new chain wash/detail
I'm doing it for a friend, but he is paying me for labor + I'm marking up the parts/mat'ls too.

here's a little update. My buddy started painting the tank today. This is all with rattle cans. base coat: masked off: in the paint booth/outdoor laundry room: and here's his concept of the final job: I dig the white/black combo. It's original, not another flat black bike which is refreshing. Tomorrow we're going to yank the airbox for pod filters and ditch the stock exhaust for some really cool mini-reverse megaphones. Sound familiar?
